Brief Introduction to the Book:

Bang-e-Dara is the first Urdu poetry collection by the great poet and thinker Allama Muhammad Iqbal, published in 1924. This collection presents Iqbal’s intellectual, spiritual, and social thoughts in the form of poetry.

The title of this book refers to the sound of a bell ringing in caravans, which gave the message to the travelers to move forward. Through this symbol, Iqbal called upon the Muslims of the subcontinent to awaken and take action.

The poems in this collection were written over a period of about twenty years and are arranged in three periods. The early period includes poems on patriotism and children, the middle part highlights the effects of the establishment of Europe, while the last part gives the idea of the intellectual and spiritual renewal of the Muslim Ummah.

This book includes many well-known works of Iqbal, such as Shikwa, Jawab-e-Shikwa, Tolo-e-Islam, and Khizr-e-Rah. It also contains interesting poems for children, of which A Spider and a Bee and A Cow and a Goat are particularly popular.

The main message of Bang-e-Dara is self-awareness, spiritual awakening, and collective unity. This book is considered an important source of intellectual awakening in Urdu poetry and the reform of Muslim society.
